It’s a busy week finishing up a new Phoenix script and finishing up a TV pilot with a co-writer that I’ve been really excited to work with. With TV stuff, you really never know if the work you do will make it to audiences, but I hope this one does. It’s an adaptation of a book I wrote years ago, and seeing it brought to life is something I really never prepared for. And I’m really excited about how the pilot episode has turned out… so, fingers crossed!
Next week is also the release of PHOENIX #3. I kind of see this issue as propelling us into something different. Jean is in the cosmos thinking she is a certain kind of hero - the kind of hero we are all familiar with - but this might be the wakeup call that Jean needs in order to realize that reinventing what a “cosmic hero” is might be necessary when you’re one of the most powerful beings in the universe. This issue marks an important turning point for Jean and issue #4… whew. Not to get too ahead of myself, but I’m excited for where the series is headed.
I had two other books out this month: Spider-Gwen issue #5, the conclusion to our first arc of the new Spider-Gwen ongoing, and EC Comics Cruel Universe #2 with a story from myself and Riley Rossmo.
It’s been a ton of fun working on Gwen’s new story as part of her move to Earth-616. Of course, the mystery about why she had to move Earths still isn’t fully uncovered, though we’ve been leaving clues since the prequel that appeared in Web of Spider-Man. Our next arc will have some pretty big reveals… along with a little romance and lots of punching. With the conclusion of the first arc, I’ll do a Gwen-dedicated post before issue 6 next month to talk more about the series.
I also got to reunite with artist Riley Rossmo on a short horror story in Cruel Universe #2 for Oni Press. Riley and I worked together for years on Harley Quinn, so it was great to get to tell a wildly different kind of story together. Just don’t eat before you read it…
Appearances!
I’ll be at NYCC next month, all days. I’ll have signings in the main artist alley, as well as signings with DSTLRY. I’ll post the full schedule as we get closer.
Hope to see you there!

Announcements…?
I’ve been working on a book for a while now with artist Marc Laming and I’ve heard that we will be putting out the official announcement soon. That’s all I’ll say for now. Here’s a sneaky look at the interior art from Marc with colors by Lee Loughridge. Official announcement soon…
